My slightly modded Man With No Name revolver...
« on: February 29, 2012, 08:46:38 PM »
Howdy pards. I got my hands on a lightly used Cimarron MWNN a couple months ago, and did my standard Uberti "personalizing.

"Antique-ish" finish, stripped the red & glossy off the grips, and blackened the brass back strap & trigger guard. I thought some of you might like to see the pics...

Hope ya'll are doing well!

It's always neat to see that people "personalize" their firearms!

How about some pics from outside in the sunlight? I think they would show off your work better......

Interesting effect.  IMNSHO, you need to oil the grips.  They look absolutely naked  :o

I plan on putting some Tung Oil on them but I love the look. I hate shiny things. :) Still, I need to protect the wood I reckon.

Thanks for the comments folks. Next time I take pictures of a knife (outside) I'll snap some more of this gun.

Nice! Did you use that Birchwood-Casey Brass Black stuff to blacken the backstrap, or do you have another method?

Paladin

The MWNN is an opentop with an 1851 barrel, so the hammer does not have the sight portion. You would have to file or mill the "end" off the hammer if it is a BP conversion pistol........

Fer HH.

Thanks fer that info pard, could not see the top of the hammer on any of the pics so presumed that the hammer was stock!!

I don't think milling a tad off the top iffn I go for it will be of any consequence whatsoever  :D

I think it will render the gun..up close and personal `cos I reckon even with a 8in (Max) barrel the sight radius is gonna be around 6-7in max, or am I totally wrong and the pistola would still behave at 20yds,  I would lurv to be wrong on this occasion!! ;D

Yessir......
About an inch less sight radius than the barrel length (give or take) ;)

Speaking of the hammer, I was really surprised at how rough this one was. There was some nasty sharp edges that I had to file & sand off. Not a big deal, but not exactly a plus either. I've owned many Cimmerons over the years and all were pretty darned nice, fit & finish wise, but this one was kinda rough in areas. Just an observation... and a bit of a curiosity.

VERY nice, pard!  The Tung Oil might surprise you.  My guns with Tung Oil woods do have some glloss, but it's a deep shine, not a surface version.  And like you mentioned, it will protect.  The grips as pictured look like they are absolutely parched and practically DUSTY they are so dry.  Looking.

Whether Tung Oil or Boiled Linseed oil, it'll bring out the figure and your grips look like some minimal figure is hiding under that coat of dryness and will show nicely when oiled up.

I like straight grain anyway ... 'tho some figure is even better.  And Burl .... ooooh-la-La!

Nice, but those walnut grips will begin to shrink if you don't oil them.

Watco Danish Oil is mostly boiled linseed oil. It won't leave a shine.
