In a match, is a 56-50 allowed, or must it be a pistol caliber?

Outlaw,
The rules state pistol caliber.  However, for local clubs it's really and an issue of target damage (which should not be a problem with the 56-50).  We have a member who shoots his 1876 repro with downloaded 45/60's.  Would need special permission at a Regional or National event but if it not a problem for your targets there should be no problem doing it locally.

That's what I thought Yuma, but unless age is catching up with me, I cannot find any reference to that in my Tally Book.

This came up several years ago.  The action taken was to leave the approval at the discretion of the local range.  After all, it is their targets.  To my knowledge, none of our present Posses have indicated that they do not allow the Spencer with 56-50 loadings.  After all, the foot pounds are the same as a 45 LC with 255 gr. factory loads.  At our ( JCR ) range, we have had no problems with their use.
