What are your thoughts on the Cimarron Type II Conversion?
A work in progress.

I would purchase it from Taylors and Co. At least they have customer service.

RTR, there are several old threads on this gun. I encourage you to use the "search" function as this has been discussed ad nauseum.

Yup.  Check our older threads.  They are nice guns and "Look fine from the Freeway" ;D

Coffinmaker

PS:  Recommend you get 'em in 44 Special or 44 Colt .... NOT .45

Abilene

There were a few issues when they first came out.  Now they are as consistent as the Richards-Masons.

The Type II is only available from Cimarron.

Howdy RTR-As advised by previous responders to your question, check out the previous threads. I aquired a Type II last year from Cimarron (as advised the source for them) and am well pleased. Some time before buying, I had alot of questions about them from reports on this forum about problems that developed. I did alot of research and question asking before laying out the greenbacks. What I found is that most of the reported problems were associated with early production and with some that were chambered in 45 Colt. I got one in 44 Special to match my '72 Open Top, but mostly shoot 44 Colt rds loaded with black powder and cast lead bullets. If you have any questions call Chris at Cimarron, he is very helpfull and friendly. Abilene (of CAS forum fame) was also very helpfull with questions, give him a PM. Many state Cimarron is not customer friendly, but I had no problem in returning a new '72 Open Top for another when the first one had some fitting and rear sight issues. I just wrote a letter to them and Mike Harvey, along with some telephone calls reminding them of their statments of customer satisfaction. My Type II is well fitted, nice figured grips(I like the 'Eye-talian" red stain too), has good action(nice an' smooth/crisp), eye catchin' blueing, and is accurate as can be with 25 grains of FF black topped with DD's Mav-Dutchman bullet. If I wanted to have a pair, I wouldn't have a problem in buying another. As with anything mechanical or otherwise, there will always be a 'lemon' or a problem from time to time, I suppose that's why all companies have customer service departments.
