Question in regards to shooting distances

Thanks for the suggestion Dave but I think I've pretty well set it up with Cliff Fendley to make a rig for me. I even have talked to him doing an eye patch as well, since I always wear one. His work looked great to me and the prices are in my range.

not that i have seen in the bylaws,most of the ncows shoots i have been to i have to use the sights to hit the target,but i think a mixture of close and far as well as target size adds to challange and fun.jefff

I think they did an excellent job at the Nationals this year. Some easy and some more challenging. A good mix.

Reason I asked:  I've heard many folks refer to "NCOWS regulation target distance" over the past few years.  I've even heard some folks quote "X yards for pistols, etc..."   

I've never seen such distances written down anywhere.

BTW:  I dont think we need to legislate such. Each of our posse's has range constraints to deal with that i unique to them.  I for one enjoy ranges that really push the targets 'out there'.

There are none .... and the very reason you state

Nor are there any restrictions on target size.

This is yet another area that set NCOWS apart from other disiplines.

at this years eastern regional we had an accuarcy rate of 83-99 % .i think this as close to perfect for  match results. it shows a well thought out stages and target placement by set up crew.everyone did well hitting targets and though close we had no clean shooters,so it gives all something to strive for next time. all targets were hit many times  ,if a target makes it though a match without being hit at least by 70% of shooters you may start hearing discouraging words.make them challanging not impossible if you want shooters to keep showing up.again this a recomendation not policy.jefff

The targets at the Eastern Regional were closer than we usually shoot at Johnson County Rangers, especially the rifle targets. You can get a good idea of the ER targets in the pictures at the bottom the page here: http://www.jcrangers.com/hooten2012.htm There is a photo of each stage taken standing at the firing line.

The Hooten range wont allow the targets to be as far as our normal Johnson County Ranger distances. Our normal pistol targets are generally closer to where their SASS rifle targets are set. That's what is nice about Evansville and other ranges with enough room where targets can be moved back for a nice mix.
