Not a Uberti, but my American Frontier Firearms 1851 Richards conversion. I've had it since 1999.

This is an ASM from Traditions.  Cut for the 44 Colt cartridge.  It had some issues when I first got it but is now up and running nicely.



I still plan to fit it with American ivory grips, smooth elk stag, as I have done a couple of my other revolvers.

ASM made some in .44 Colt as well. None I have seen had the rebated cylinder nor stepped frame and did not have the ring "lip".

On another note, Major's gun was shipped from Iowa & not God forsaken Nebraska.

That is the way I got it, 44 Colt.  I've had it for years and was so happy to find it in 44 Colt I never noticed the straight cylinder until you pointed it out!  It is one of my favorite SA revolvers.

That's really cool Straw Hat. 

I never realized they had straight cylinders on all of them until Fox Creek Kid pointed it out.  It's the only reason I keep him around because he's full of odd bits of arcane information like that.

I have the freakish twin to it in .38 spl.  I have the original box as well. 

If you get the chance sometime throw a caliper on the cylinder and let us know what the diameter is.

Actually Mako, there is an exception. I saw a very early ASM .44 Colt conversion that had a very faint rebate and a faint step. I talked to a fella at the 2000 NCOWS Conv. in Des Moines who had one strapped on. It was the ONLY one I saw like this.

OK now your irritating me...

I was pretty sure I had seen them with rebated cylinders.  When I bought the one I have I was surprised when it came and it was a kludge.  I ordered a 1861 Colt Navy Conversion Catalog No. SA19502 and received a pistol with an Army Grip, sort of a Type 1 ring assembly (without the overlapping lip as you noted) the lug left like the Richards Army models.

I have an American Frontier Firearms 1860 "conversion" like FCK mentioned above, but it appears that Dave just tapered the rebate from about 1/4 or so inches from the rear of the cylinder forward in order to emulate a rebate. There is no step in the frame. I was told this pistol was a "prototype" and very few were made. It's in 44 Colt.

I also understand that ASM did just started making pistols out of the parts they were making for Dave, hence the ASM line. The quality of the bluing and the final fit and finish on the ASM versions I own do not hold a candle to the two AFF pistols (an 1860 in 44 and an 1871 in 44).

Your 1851 appears to have a blued frame, am I correct?
I'd also like to know what the serial number is, mine are both pretty low numbers if memory serves me.

Mine does have a blued frame. The serial number is 38XX. Bought it in 1999 from a Los Angeles Police officer who told me it was used on a film that he was an advisor for. Don't recall the name of the film. The bluing and fit and finish are excellent. Looks almost like a deep "Colt blue."

Anyone here have an AFF '72 Open Top? If so, please post photos. I remember calling them once a month for over a year trying to buy one & NADAAAAAAAAAA. That was back in '96 - '97.
