Pards
« on: January 09, 2011, 07:26:56 PM »
Tonight I lost my Barn/Shop/Garage to fire, it's a total loss..... :'(
They think it was electrical at my work bench.

The house is detached some 50 feet away so aside from some minor scorching it's fine and we are OK .

Mental note of what was out there ... some reenacting blanks, all of my Black powder, stored in metal if it did not go up it's soaked.

My reenacting saddles and tack all my tools ( band saw , Drill press, table saw ,nails guns all my hand tools ) 20 Hp garden tractor...
smaller lawn mower

On the apt. side...  air Cond, refrigerator,  my wife's bike, Daughter's Surf Board , washer & dryer

Many many of my ...Ref. History books..... my period wall tent

Sorry I'm just stressing... got to do a list though  :-\

Roger,

I'm truely sorry for your loss.  I know a loss like that hurts bad.   Folks like us spend lots of time collecting stuff that sometimes can't be replaced.

Thank God you didn't lose any loved ones or pets.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help out.

Sorry to hear about the fire Major. Glad to hear no one was injured though!

Roger, that is bad luck indeed.
I know as your nerves settle you'll be able to make up a more detailed list for the Insurance people.

Somethings will be lost forever, I know. If I can help, say the word.

Pard, Do know how you fell. Some things can not be replaced. Back on Dec. 27, 1977 after working a 16 hour shift at the paper mill our cat worke me up. The house was on fire, called the fire dept. we were out in the county so took awhile to get there. To make a long story short, we lost everything.  The cat woke me up in time to get all out and we were thnakful for that. Most every thing can be replaced, but those that held memories can not.  The next few days will be hard, your friends will be a big help.  Thank God, that no one was hurt.  Your NCOWS family wish you well. Sorry for your loss, I kinda know how you feel, my Mom's house burned in '85 and was a total loss. Not all of my stuff was there since I was living up on the farm but her and my brother lost it all along with all the pictures and memories.

Just hang in there and try to think things happen for a reason but I know that aint easy. It'll get easier as the days go, thankfully no one or animals were hurt.

Roger:

Very sorry to hear of your loss. My home burned in 1986 and many, many items were lost forever. The fire started in the early morning while we were all asleep. I thanked God then that we were all OK and am thankful now that the same is true at your house.

The loss is numbing and will take a good while to get over, but most things can be replaced. People never can.
Know that we're all thinking about you.

Roger, I am deeply saddened by your loss.  Loosing everything to a fire is one of my greatest fears.  I keep thinking we should copy a representative sample of 43 years of pictures and store them in another place.  Although I would hate to loose my guns and things the loss of pictures just would be too much.

You and your wife will be in our prayers.

Thank you all.... Ol Luke (cat) showed up just as I though he would so everybody is present and accounted for.

I had my Skeet Throwing Rig, about 6 boxes of 12 Gauge AA Target and my SXS out there
The Shells cooked off and it sounded to the neighbors ( they are acres ,away I have ranch ) like a battle.
I lost all my camping gear, wall tent ( I still have my period canteen though )
My Grimsley Saddle is burned up and all my tack ...found my original bits though...

All my daughter Dressage & Western show equipment and all of her ribbons, plates and trophies are gone.

I found some of my Cavalry gear... toast..  but my original sabor belt buckle was found and will clean up...

Tools are history  :'(  complete shop )

here are some photos
