colt pocket navy and pocket police conversion?

no one is making a pocket police or pocket navy conversion? drop in cylinder? whats up with that?.
 that seems to be a over site on the people who supply us these kind of things. just think a small frame open top .38
it can be done for the baby dragoon it should be able to be done with pocket navy and police as these are the same frames just a step in the frame.
 i sure do need/want one

Unfortunatly there is not enough room do do it safely

Because of the rebated cylinder the stop notches break through and the chamber walls end up being to thin. If someone were to load hot rounds in one it would be scrap metal and damaged shooter.

We've tried it and decided it was not worth the liability we woud incur.

I asked Walt Kirst this same question, and yeah, the rebated cylinder means the back end of the cylinder is pretty small (it actually uses undersized charge chambers to get the thing to fit at all, even as a C&B.  Think of the cylinder as a hybrid .31/.36)   He told me if I was bound and determined to convert it, I could use a '49 conversion to .32, then either sleeve the barrel or use a '49 barrel.

 So would there be any other issues (other than lining the barrel) if installing the '49 cylinder on a '62?  Do you guys do barell lining? What is the price? If not do you know of anyone who does/will do it?
 I have a '62 that I'm itching to convert, so I look forward to hearing from you.

i have no problem with converting the 49 except that  it is a 32 caliber. my 13 year old daughter is showing some interest in shooting with me. i have a 49 and have considered getting the gated cylinder.  then i seen some pictures of originals pocket navies and police and thought that a pair would be better for her to grow into.
  i sure hate to hear that its not possible. i shoot these types of guns as they were meant to be shot with real black powder, lube and soft lead bullets. but safety is always a number 1 concern.

Hey John,

Barrel lining is $150. The 49 cylinder will work fine. We could also convert and line the original cylinder for the price of the 49 converter plus $150 for the lining and chambering.
It's a little pricy but it's also a lot of work

A 49 and a 62 are the same main frame, grip frame and innards.  The main difference is the 62 has the frame cut a little to accept the stepped cylinder in .36.  But note the back half of the cylinders are the same as a '49, and as Walt Kirst told me, I could simply use a '49 barrel (wedge might need a little tweaking), as a drop in replacement for a 62 barrel as well.  In the end, I decided to keep the 62 a C&B.  If I wanna go conversion, I guess I'd go to a pair of 61s.

Like Walt said the 49 barrel would work fine. The only limitation is that they are only available in a short length as compared to the pocet police. I am currently lining a pocket police barrel to .32 for a customer who wants the longer barrel on a 49.

 So you can use the original fluted cylinder and just line the chambers, if so that's what I would prefer! What would be the total price for converting the cylinder, lining the barrel, and cutting a loading groove on the the right side recoil shield?
 What kind of time frame are we speaking of? Is it possible for a loading gate to be mounted as well?

Hi John,

Our standard Kirst converter instalation price is $85 which includes cutting the loading groove, refinish and resolving any timing issues.
I have put gates on 49 rings. We (Kirst Compoany) do not offer a gated ring for the 49 so this is a hand fit project. I take a gate from the 51/61/60 Colt ring weld up the pivot hole and then reduce it's size to fit the 49 ring and redrill the pivot. Then the 49 ring is modified for the gate. the price for adding the gate is $150.

Turn around time on a project like this would be approxamatly 3 months,
