Powderhorn with Beaded Strap Circa: 1870
« on: June 09, 2010, 08:07:24 AM »

Lovely powder horn with original beaded strap and horn plug. Probably of Cree origin, but this could be Metis or Ojibway too. This piece would have been owned and used by one of the group above, or possibly a fur trader/mountain man. The strap is made of red trade wool, edged in green silk, and beaded in a typical floral Woodlands pattern. The horn is carved to show a vine in relief. A wonderful pairing and unusual to find the strap and horn together. Circa 1870. No restoration has been done to the strap and it should be handled with care. 24" long when hanging. Horn is 10" across including plug.

Price: $2,950.00
