Yes.

A good way to build the sight up is to ask a jeweler or a machinist, since both do 'close' work.

As far as sticking, solder will stick to brass almost (?) better than anything else in the world.

Solder will stick to the brass, but I would think it would wear down from holster wear, since it's not that hard. I have seen a bit of copper wire soldered to the sight, then filed down to sight it in. Ther copper would wear better against the holster leather.

What sort of a gun is this for?  If it is for a '51, Uberti '51 Richards-Masons made in the last year or two have a brass post on the front that is about twice as tall as the one on previous guns which were the same height as the '51 percussion guns.  If that is what you have you might contact VTI to see if they have the taller brass post.

At one time I had created a detail design drawing for a replacement (taller) front sight. I passed this drawing out (free-gratis) to several firms we're familiar with including EMF, Dixie Gun Works and Cimmarron FA at SHOT show back around 2003. I haven't seen them available, so I guess my idea didn't "fly". I've had to replace a number of blade front sights on C&B pistols and find this a relatively easy procedure.

I'll offer up this idea that was from a friend a mine Oldelm...sight extention, requires a length of brass or copper rod, solder, an iron, some dremel tools.


That was done on a 1861 Colt Navy...

I made a new post for my Navy from a piece of brass rod from the hardware. I bought a sight from VTI for an opentop (which is about .050 taller) for my 1860. Both worked and looked great. I glued them in place with J-B Weld.
