This one's from the Butcher collection. That cowboy's starting young.

They tend to out here, mostlikely some about that age helping with branding right now as we discuss their ancestors.

Reminds me of that picture in the Butcher Collection of the guy branding a calf that's wearing lace up work boots and bib overalls.  The giveaway in that one is the horse and rigging.  And that guy don't even have chaps on. ;)

I was going to ask how they got the calf to wear lace up work boots and bib overalls. However, I can see we're way beyond that now, so I won't.

Now here is another interesting outfit, dated 1886, a crop from a staged picture by Butcher (#12635)  But even to stage a photo one has to use clothes that were availble.

Less hat and boots you can get one of these today for about $40.   ;)

Just a light cotton coverall, sometimes called a boiler suit because they were popular with folks who stoked boilers.

Back to the original picture, the chaps lacing is long, which I recall as being an early feature.

I've worked cows with Cowboys who used the round stirrup. They claimed that no matter how your foot caught the stirrup it felt the same. I didn't like'm myself.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.
