I was born in the Texas Panhandle and lived around the feedlots in the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles. I worked on a ranch, north of Amarillo as a teenager. I have eaten "mountain oysters" on numerous and sundry occasions. I did learn one thing when I cooked some over a camp fire, they are not fully cooked when they pop open. I recommend that they be prepared like Chicken Fried Steak and served with biscuits and cream gravy. I also eaten "Turkey Fries", which I recommend as well.

"I recommend that they be prepared like Chicken Fried Steak and served with biscuits and cream gravy."   Yup, we used to get a mess when we cut steers.   Mom split them in half and pounded them somewhat flat.   :o   They were tasty and that way my sisters never had a clue what they were eating.   had the turkey ones as well and I liked them better than beef or pork ones.    Ate a lot of tonge as well.  That is tasty.

I'm with Del and TLD on this one Mountain Oysters/Prairie Oysters aka calf fries are good eating.  When I lived in Eastern Colorado we would have the local team roping association along with their families to my house for oysters and beer a couple times a year.  There was a large feedlot in the little town and the head cowboy would bring the "fries" to my house every time they cut a pen of bulls.  My wife would clean them and freeze them until we had enough to feed 60 or 70 folks.  It was always a great party.

Back in my college days, i lived with 4 other guys and a couple of girls.   Most of our living budget was relegated to alcohol, so we ate as cheap as we could.  Me and one other guy were the country boys, we soon figured out no one ate tongue or corn meal mush.  He and I made sure it was bought every trip to the store.   One way we got everyone to eat it (big mistake) was to braise it, peel it, then sliced thin.  mmmmmm  Funny, those guys all eat it now.  (mush too)

The Green Door was a Brothel in Deadwood. I took a tour through it when I was in Deadwood on an extradition. All I remember about it was that it was on the Main st and upstairs.

LOL!!!!!! That's what I like about SHB. I thought of the same thing and I almost posted it, too. Fortunately I controlled myself this time. I'm glad he didn't. "Great Minds Think Alike!"

There was a song about the Green Door in the 50's, I'm not sure about the date.  What's behind the Grren Door?

"Behind the Green Door" was a very famous old 'naughty' movie that starred the legendary Marilyn Chambers.

At least that's what I've heard....

"Whats going on behind the Green Door." 1954, if I recall correctly.

When he got to look inside he, "Saw an eye ball peeking through a smoky cloud behind the Green Door."

I, of course, have ONLY heard rumours of this cinematic classic, but yes.  VERY famous.  Not the way MOST "Snow White" soap advert girls ended up with fame, but ...
