This massive bowie is a very formidable weapon, with loads of interest. The super blade is 11" x 2" x 3/16" clip pt. blade. The sharpened clip is in keeping with bowies of this early period. The blade is bright, uncleaned, with a small amount of salt and pepper dark coloration. The handle is a big piece of stag, with 2 carved rings behind the ferrule. The brass ferrule is file- worked, with cutouts that look like tepees. The iron guard is a masterpiece of forge and file work. The original scabbard is still with this bowie which is a real plus. It is made of wood, and covered with red leather with belt loop. A real eyecatcher. C. 1840's.
