WINGLESS MUSKET CAPS

Has anyone tried the new WINGLESS musket caps?  I notice they are about 1/2 as expensive as the winged caps....
any other differences???

Uh, well, no not really....but they don' really have much application in CAS.

Why, for shame on your Monsieur Crooked - there are many who aspire to use large bore ML in Bufallo matches, some of which use the muskets caps! I personally use a musket nipple for my .1863 Sharps to introduce as much fire into that painfully circuitous and meandering fire channel as possible.

However Monsieur Scrounger,  some several years ago I haunted the local WallyWorlds during end of hunting clearance sales and acquired a good 8 or 10 tins of standard musket caps at an obscenely low price , so it is not likely I will be trying the new ones...

But excuse me Prof Marvel.....you should wipe the dust of yer Sharps and commence using those caps for thier intended purpose.
900 caps should only last perhaps 4 or 5 range sessions.....then when the need arises to purchase more caps you will remember the wingless caps are 1/2 the price of the top hat caps......

I use wingless exclusively on Muskets and Carbines. I have been very happy with wingless caps.

Just about any sutler at an NSSA Skirmish, or most larger reenactments. Anybody who deals in RWS Caps should be able to get them. Gamaliel Shooters Supply in South Central Kentucky stocks them. Dixie may have them. Just about anywhere you get real Civil War shooting supplies.

To Cuts, I shoot pistoleer and if we have a stage with only 6 rifle shots or so, I plan on breaking out my original Smith carbine, which uses the above mentioned caps.  The style points would be phenominal.

Ok, I concede to the fact that they do have some application in CAS....But I stand firm in claiming that don't have MUCH application! in CAS :-* ;)

I've searched for these and didn't find reference to "wingless" caps.
Are these made by RWS?
If so are they just the RWS standard cap design?
I've read that other brands of "winged" caps have excessive fragmentation and are frowned upon for reenactors.
Teh caps I've seen as recommended were listed around $13 / hundred......I'm sure the "winged" ones can be had for about $6 / 100.
So, where is the cost savings mentioned?

Wow...cheep!!....50 - 60 bucks per thousand is among the better deals I find in these parts for ANY percussion cap (you can find)...mail order would work out if I could find a dealer with the various sizes I need at a fair price  :(  I'm still looking.

I've used the wingless caps for the past three years in N-SSA competition.  They work very well in both my 1863 Shiloh Sharps carbine and my Fayetteville musket.  They don't get stuck in the Sharps action as winged caps do at times and they completely break apart with the musket hammer and nipple.

 Hey Appalacian Kid, do you shoot a Keene and Walker in carbine matches?

I have a Keene, but I have shot it very little in team matches. It is a bit too slow. I shoot a 1st Model on the line mostly. I shoot wingles caps on everything and have been happy with them for many years straight.

Does anyone in the western part of the US carry these?

I have checked with several of the muzzle loading suppliers at recent gun shows and have not had any success.

Most all seem to have the winged type but not the wingless type.

Thanks for any leads that you might have.
