Got my Walton and Taylor Sac Coat today...
« on: August 31, 2009, 02:46:32 PM »
Boy is it nice!  It is very well built, cut the old way, fits the old way (they should be a little tighter in the shoulders than a modern coat), and just looks right.  I'm very happy to have it.  It looks so good that I will have to get a new vest to go with it!  Walton and Taylor didn't have any in my size that I really liked.  Its a real shame that they are going out of the business.

Anyway, the moral of the story is support the folks who support our hobby.  I know things are tight all over but spend a little money if you can to keep good folks in business.

I'll do it when I get the chance.  Perhaps I will wait till my new fair weather Christian belt (for my Spencer and 1876) comes in, Carrico's leather works charged my card today.  New Toys!  But then, I'm, all dressed up with nowhere to go.   I'm hoping to get up to shoot with the folks in Bakersfield at some point.   There is not really any shooting down here in El Centro.

Its a shame they are going out of business. They had a sack coat wool that I really wanted, oh well.

Hey Darby:
They are cleaning out their stock at the moment.  Give a call to Ray at 214-503-7200 and see what they have in stock.  The prices are very good.

Lets see if this works, this is me in my new coat with my 76.  The 76 has a silver plate on it with my name and the ranch brand.   I have a 7 1/2 inch colt on under there but you can't see it.

Now that's the look! If that photo had been sepia toned it would have looked like you stepped out of the 19th century. If you get up to Bakersfield to shoot with the Hat Creek Regulators you can't beat a better bunch of guys.

Thanks bill, I like it myself.  I aspire to a certain scruffy accuracy.  I like to look like I've lived in my clothes awhile.  The coat is new of course but it has that good sort of odd 19th century look with sloped shoulders.  Its the first sac coat I have ever had, I have always done a more scruffy field impression (wool over shirts and a buckskin jacket etc.) but as I am getting a little older I thought I would tone it up a bit.  I'd like a better vest, this one is showing its wear and I'm not as happy as I could be with its authenticity (though its not bad).

Honestly, the biggest problem I have is me.  I keep growing out of my cool clothes and gun belts!  I turned 45 this year and, having smashed my self up in a horse wreck a few years ago (broke some ribs, a collar bone and a leg in 3 places),  I'm not as spry as I used to be.  As a result the pounds go on allot easier than they used to.  One thing about having pneumonia though, I lost 15 pounds in a week!  Can't recomend it though.

Howdy Roscoe,

As Ottawa Creek Bill said "Now that's the look". This is truly a great picture and I could not resist converting it to Sepia Tone.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself
