I was talking to a freind with a large reloading business and to a distributor who tell me the price increase is nothing more than charging more because of decreased supply. One guy said he just got 10,000 primers at the same price he has always paid. The distributor said his price has not gone up, he just can't get a steady supply.
One of the reasons is that factory ammo has been going like hotcakes since the election and the factories are putting all their primers into their own ammo, which gets first priority. Secondly, the government has been letting out large ammo contracts for the last two years, so filling those contracts gets the second priority. Supplying primers to handloaders is the last priority, so we get whatever is left, whenever any is left.
Many folks who saw this coming were buying and stocking up last spring and summer. That's how it goes when you're last to the party.
