WTS/WTT Kirst Cartridge Konverter for Colt's Pocket Model 1849
« on: September 02, 2008, 09:28:59 AM »
Well, after banging all this description into the Classifieds the software kicked it out with an error message, so I'm putting this here.

I have a Kirst Cartridge Konverter that will allow your Uberti Colt's Pocket Model of 1849 to fire .32 S&W Short cartridges. It's unfired, has been put in my revolver and has wear spots on the finish, but is otherwise new. It has the "C" back plate (recoil shield) that allows you to mill a channel into the right rear side of the frame so you can load and unload the cylinder without disassembling the revolver.

I'd like to get $215.00 for it or trade it for an R&D cartridge conversion cylinder for the same gun and cartridge. I prefer the trade. You can pay me via Paypal if you wish, just let me know and I'll give you the email address to do it.

See them advertised here:

Ok,  I just have to know.  Why are you opting for the RandD cylinder instead of the Kirst?

I don't want to mill a channel in the frame and the R&D is six shots.

Ah ok.   I just noticed the Kirst had 5 chambers.   I have the RandD myself and like it.  Taylors actually had to fit mine to the gun as I was having problems with it initially.     Those 32 shorts are tiny especially when you put them side by side with  a 45 colt!!   ;D

Frenchie,
I just did the reverse, got rid of my R&D cylinder and bought a Kirst.  What I didn't like about the R&D was the individual firing pins would catch on the side of the frame and lock up when I cocked the revolver with the barrel tilted above horizontal.  Gravity would allow the floating firing pins to fall back enough to interfere with cocking the revolver.  If I held the gun so the barrel tilted down, no problem.  It was OK once I got in the habit of tilting the barrel down but it just irritated me.  So I opted for the Kirst.  To bad we didn't get together sooner.

I think I have that solved, I'm going to file an angle on the frame where the pins will hang up so they'll go back into the backplate as the cylinder rotates.

Not sure how old this thread is, but if the Kirst cylinder is still available, I'll take it! :)
