Howdy, All!
I'm brand new to this sight. Steel-Eyed Steve over at the SASSnet told me this is the place to find the info I'm looking for. There is an auction coming up locally where there is a Spencer Rifle for sale with serial #4585. I was wondering if anyone had info on what unit this may have been issued to? Since this is not a rifle I own (yet?), I just would like to know what unit, if possible, for my own curiousity.  FWIW, I currently own both a Spencer 1860 Rifle and 1865 Carbine. The rifle identifies (through Springfield) to Private Charles Doke, 9th MI Cav. (ser. #37xx)
Thanks, everyone!

Hello Headstone,

I am in Boston, MA for a medical emergency in my family.  My Spencer serial # information is back in northern Maine.  So if you can wait a few days, I will be able to give you some info on your Spencer when I get back to my place up north.

You're not a member of SSS.  You might consider joining.  Just send me an Email that you want to join.  My Email address is fsgrand2@fairpoint.net.

Hope to hear from you.

Howdy, Two Flints!
My prayers to your family. The auction the Spencer is at is not until August 1st, so anytime before that would be great. If you can't get to it because of your trip, I understand, and that is no problem. Before seeing this sight, I didn't realize so many people converted their Spencers to center-fire and shoot them! I'll send you an email about joining up the SSS, even if just for all the great information. Thank you for your time!
