Help MagTeck 12 ga Brass
« on: June 12, 2008, 08:26:11 AM »
Just loading up my new brass shell . In my 12 ga  Stoger the firing pins are just lightly hitting the primer ...will not go BANG!!!
Any quick fix ..my shoot is this Saturday ...and they would look soooooooooooooo   cool.

I don't want to screw up the internals but if there is something I can do myself , I would sure appreciate the help.

Dutchy.

will they fire if you recock and shoot a second time?
what primer are you using?

My Stoeger occassionly will hit too lightly, not often .   I found some primers are just need a little more of a hit

Using CCI primers.

Sometimes they will go on the second or third hit . Mostly the first hit just dimples the primer. What are u using for a primer??

Are ya using pistol or rifle primers? Rifle primers are harder. I was using Federal pistol primers. When I ran out, I couldn't find any Federals so I bought Remingtons. I had used Remingtons before so I wasn't worried.

Like Slim said, be sure you are using pistol primers, not rifle primers.  CCI are the hardest primers, Federal are the softest, Winchester somewhere in between.  I don't know where Remingtons fit in the hardness scale.

If you haven't had any problems setting off factory shotshells with 209 primers, then the shotgun is probably fine and you shouldn't have any problem setting off the pistol primers in the brass shells.

If you have any shells that are not loaded, you can experiment with primers and seeing if you can pop them without having to shoot loaded ammo.

Good luck.

Thanks to all
The gun works fine with factory loads . As you have noted I think it is the hard CCI rifle primers. I have some Winchester pistol primers but they are too small . I'm going to get a hold of some Federal or Rems. to try .
I'll keep you posted.

They need to be large pistol primers.
