45-70 Load
« on: June 09, 2008, 03:06:28 PM »
 Had a quick look in Search but couldn't see what I wanted.

Anyone have a decent 100yard load using Triple 7?

I'm shooting a H&R 1873 Trapdoor  Springfield Officers Model .
Now using 50gr. 2ff Goex with a 405gr (457) pan lubed  RNFP . Super little shooter and want to try it with some 777.

Appreciate the reply.

I've reloaded most of my.45/70 gov't cases with 777.  68grs 2F I will use some this weekend, weather permitting, when I sight in my new MVA MR sight @ 100 yds. will post the results if applicable.

Sorry Dutchy;
looks like Saturday will be a "washout" It's been 60%ing liquid sunshine around here all day and the percentage doesn't go down until Sunday and even if the weather girl is mistaken and the rain does slacken, the shooting range according to last report, is a shallow lake which is usually o.k. if the rain lets up but it's impossible to say that it will and then there's mosquitoes and ant balls to contend with.
  Next weekend is our bi-monthly gun show so I'm looking at the last weekend of the month before possibly making it to the Blackpowder range.

Hi Dutchie
I have a couple of suggestions but I don't use subs so take them for what they're worth. One is to post this message on the BP forum. The other is that since you're using an officers model, you might want to consider using a carbine load which would be a 55gr. equivelent with a 405 gr. bullet lubed with a good BP type lube.
