To this day I still don't believe I was drunk 'nuff ta get on stage with Lucky Bill 'n do the Martin/Nelson duet of 'My Rifle, My Pony 'n Me' in front of a dinin' room fullah strangers. They were nice 'nuff to applaud. They mustah been drunk too.

Thems ain't never had good sense. I ever tell ya Trampas always hid his shine from me 'til after I retired 'n swore I wasn't totin' a badge anymore?

Somethin' I remember.

On stage 'n between songs LB told me 'e didn't want no more beer 'n asked if I could slip 'im some the stuff I had in my room. No problem.

We go onta singin' 'n I kindah adopted one his empty Bud bottles. Acted like it was mine with somethin' in it. Werked the crowd, shakin' hands 'n makin' small talk 'til I got ta the back door then snuck out. Went to my room 'n filled it with...... bottled water. Snuck back in 'n up on stage like I'd never left. Put it on an amp 'n give Lucky Bill a wink.

Few months later. I guess we were there for a WASA shoot, same bartender. Walk up 'n order a beer. He sez, 'Fine. But don't leave the room with an empty bottle 'n bring it back filled with sumthin' else like ya did last time. Ya could get me in trouble.'

Over a hunnert folks in that room. The boy was good.
