Option 1. Buy a Taurus Thunderbolt in .45LC (about $600, but hard to find).
Option 2. Buy a EMF Model 92 in .45LC (about $500, by the time its shipped to me)
Option 3. Wait, and continue to look for an excellent value in a Model 73 clone (about $1000).

Serious advice needed here.

Thanks.

WCT,

I love  :-* my 73!   You can usually find the Thunderbolt on the gun auction sites for around $475 + shipping.  I was lucky and found a good used 73 for $750 a year and a half ago.  Good luck!

I would wait... if it were me.

Also... remember, an 1866 Yellowboy is the same toggle link as a '73 and can be made to perform as well.

Usually a used '66 is a bit cheaper.

Just something to consider.

I have both the EMF Hartford '92 and a Taurus Thunderbolt, both in .45, and like both of them.

I agree with Forty Rod, if you watch the classified ads here and the SASS Wire, Gun Broker, Guns America, Auction Arms, etc. you will eventually find what you are looking for. In fact by watching here and the SASS Wire Classifieds you will probably find one for much less $$, I found a Uberti Henry for $700 when I was looking for an under $400 '92. I found those too but I couldn't resist the Henry!

+1 on waiting.

For me it was a '66. I realy like them. There are folks that love the '92s and the Lightnings but if you like the '73, you will wish for your favorite each time you pick up one of the others. In the end, I think it is better to waite for that which "speaks" to you.

Wait.  You'll save money in the long run because you won't buy the others and then end up with a '73 or '66 anyway.  ;D

It depends on how long you will have to wait.  If it is TOO long, get a 92 so you can be shooting.

Otherwise, I think you would be happier if you get a 66 or 73.

I'm starting to look on the auction sites - some good deals on the '66's.

Thanks!
