I am assuming you have tried Cimarron and Taylors.  If you havent, then try them first.  I know the conversions are very scarce right now, but I dont know about the open tops.  I have an open top in 38 special/38 long colt that I really love.  When you find one, you wont be dissapointed.  Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

I have an 1851 RM Navy and an 1872 Army Open Top both in .38 Special. Bought them from Taylor's within the last year. They were in stock at the time. Taylor's is easy to work with.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

they tend to fly of the shelves and are sometimes backordered... I believe Utonia on GunTrader.com has some and my pard at Bullalo Bills Shooting Store, Orlando had a 5 1/2 " Navy  last time I was in there...
Tammy Loy at Taylor's should have a shipment ..and try Cimarron too

There are no dumb questions.  The only company producing opentops today as far as I know is Uberti.  All US distributors who sell opentops are made by Uberti.  You can focus on price.  Pick the company that you can get the best price as well as the caliber you desire.  Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

Depending how flexible you are on the model, Cimarron does currently have a pair of 7 1/2" charcoal blue OT's with Army grips in .38.

Also, if you like 5 1/2" barrels, you might consider the '51 Richards-Mason, Cimarron has a bunch of those.  I personally like the R-M more than the OT's, love that octagonal barrel and longer sight radius!

But there are lots of OT's out there so they show up used fairly often.  Good luck!
