looking for a rifle
« on: May 11, 2007, 08:02:09 AM »
I am looking for my first lever rifle.
I shoot a NRV in .45 and was advised to look for the same caliber in a rifle while starting out. I have just started to research the different guns available and am a little overwhelmed by all the info.
can you give your opinions on a rifle for a beginner. I may start out with a used gun, what should I look for? Are there any I should stay away from?
Thanks for any help.

Winchester clones  1866 or 1873 are great rifles.   I also love my 1892 from Armi sport.  You can try Taylor firearms or Cimarron firearms online for these weapons.

66 or 73.  If you need something less expensive I would opt for a Marlin over a '92.

Thanks for the help so far. Can you tell me anything about EMF brand guns? Are there any makers to stay away from?

I really wanted a Marlin...

Till I realized that, like my Model 60, there will be a warning VERY prominently placed on the barrel, telling me guns are dangerous and misuse could kill someone.

Those irritate me almost as much as the warning on my bottle of soda, telling me not to open in pointing at my face.

*snicker*

So I'm looking for a 73 Winchester clone.

The gun that won the west will have to do for me.

Well I put some money down on a EMF 1892 Hartford saddle ring .45 cal today.  Anyone have a picture, pattern, or details on the sling for the saddle ring setup?

Thanks for all the replies and the help.
