AWA lightning? How good?
« on: March 04, 2007, 10:54:24 PM »
Spotted one today, short round barrel, all blued, funny plastic forearm, pretty much NIB with tags and all still on it. They wanted 500 for it. Is it worth it? I have a Cimarron already and love it, but it wont slamfire. Does the AWA slamfire? Thanks. DM

Howdy Dalton Master,

I've had mine for about 6-7 months now bought it from a pard paid 600.00 for mine.  I use it as my main match gun and as long as I keep it clean no problems.  I did find that it doesn't like large rifle primers and with the use of large pistol primers not a hickup.  OAL on my 45 rounds is 1.578.  And yes it will slam fire.

Alrighty, bit the bullet and my Cimarron Lightning has a 20" roundbarreled baby brother. The funny forearm is a Colt repro. in a nasty brown/green. The slide/bolt part of the action is very very smooth, but trigger pull is horrendous. Probably 8-10 lbs would be a close guess. Wiggles the hammer back when pulled, so its not square on the sear I think.  It is an AWA International gun, one of the early out of business guns. Talked to Russell at AWA yesterday, and plan to send it in to get refitted with good parts. Should come back as a good shooter. He seemed very happy to help regain AWAs name. With service like that, I think AWA will make a comeback. DM

Well, went out and shot it tonite. It is very different from my Pedersoli. Pedersoli runs flawlessly, this dont. Kicked out at least 4 live rounds due to light hits out of 50 shots fired. Hammer spring tension is very high, yet get light hits. Other than that, seemed to work ok, but needs sent in for retrofit. Wont be replacing my Pedersoli anytime soon. DM
