Howdy Coffinmaker,
Uberti made the Man With No Name guns exactly like the original movie gun, which was made with a '72 Opentop frame. And the hammer on the Opentop does not have the nose on it like a Richards-Mason hammer. A v-notch in that hammer would be below the plane of the top of the barrel. And a R-M hammer will not fit in an opentop frame. I'm told that future shipments from Uberti will have a small rear sight dovetailed into the rear of the barrel. My thoughts are that this will mess with the cool looks of the gun. I shoot '51 Richards-Masons myself, and I don't use the hammer notch. I set the front brass bead on top of the hammer, which essentially puts it right on top of the flat top of the barrel like Bobduck is doing with his, and I aim a little lower than center on the targets. Works well and is quicker than trying to put the bead into the little notch.
Speaking of doing the guns just like the originals, for the folks who order theirs with the optional snake grips, the grips are sent to the same guy who did Eastwood's grips way back then for the inlaying of the snake. I'm told he's really old
