Looking for a Spencer lock?

So you are looking for a Spencer lock, eh? Well, be careful when you find a lock that it’s not for the Peabody, which is very similar. I picked one up from S&S last year by mistake, and the good folks there were good enough to refund my money on the lock because they had not realized it was wrongly labeled as a Spencer lock. It wasn't until I began to disassemble and cleaning the lock, and replace the screws that I noticed the bridle was different from a Spencer bridle, then I realized it was for a Peabody which is so similar the two locks are almost interchangeable, with the emphasis on the “almost” part. The photo below illustrates my point.
