Well it looks like I made it within a year.

Been shootin Pistoleer with my Stevens 311. Went to a gun show and picked up a very little used CAI hammered 12 guage with a leather butt cover for 210.00.

Now I gotta scrounge some more plastic hulls until I can lay in for some brass 12 guage shells. The 311 is 16ga.

Can't wait to use it for the Saluda Saddle Tramps shoot on the 29th.

Congrats on finding a hammer gun.  I plan on shooting with the SST at the Dec 29 shoot.  I hope to see you then.

I love my TTN copy of the Colt coach gun. I always shoot it when I shoot black powder. Those hammers are easy to cock. Tj

Congrats on the new shotgun.

but did I miss somthing?  What is NOTncows legal about a stevens 311?
I thought NCOWS allowed hammerless doubles as well as hammered?

Pistoleer class requires lever or hammered double. It is the only class I shoot. I have been wanting a hammer gun anyways, for a long time. When SST was formed, it became a priority.

I don't know if I can make the Nationals. I want to in the worst way but don't know if I can swing it.

Good on ya, pard!
Hammer doubles have got all the cool factors rolled into one neat package.

Bow View, yes the 311 is NCOWS legal, except in the Pistoleer (C&B pistols X 2) Class.  Pistoleer is the "earliest" timeframe, and the shooters must use 2 C&B revolvers, a hammer double shotgun, a pre-1873 rifle, and must shoot one-handed.  There may be a few more restrictions (i.e. outfits) but this hits the high points.

My fault :-[.   I missed the part about Pistoleer class.  I never got that far.  I totally agree on the cool factor of the hammers, was just confuseded for a bit.  (normal for me ;D).  It's always great when things come together for a new class or persona.
