« on: March 29, 2012, 05:48:50 PM »
Any one know about this gun for sale at https://riverjunction.com/45-From-the-Lonesome-Dove-TV-Series_p_2315.html as the ads say is was "This gun was given to The National Congress of Old West Shootists and was given out as a prize at their national shoot." Now I'm not going to buy it just wondering about it is all.

The reason I asked is I own the complete series from Deadman Walk to Streets of Lorado and don't remember a single character named Col. Francis Clay Mosby in any of the shows. Now was their another series on TV I didn't see or was it the unoffical one for Return to Lonesome Dove?

Can't answer your qustions about this specific gun, but Col Clay Mosby was Newt's antagonist in the two series "Lonesone Dove: The Series" and "Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years" which ran in the mid-90s (94-95 or 95-96 if I remember correctly).  These were regular season TV shows, not the mini-series like Lonesome Dove or Streets of Laredo.

Thank Hill, I never saw those only the mini series and later the rest of them based on the original author's books. Really just curious on this is all.

Joec:

You can find some general information on them here  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108839/ and here:  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0131176/

The two seasons had distinctly different flavors to them.  Some folks liked it, some did not.  Personally, I thought that they were fairly well done as long as you accepted that the only thing that they really shared with the oiriginal Lonesome Dove miniseries was the character of Newt, and during the first season there were a couple of guest appearances by Capt Call (played by Lee Majors).  Sometimes Walmart willl carry the complete series boxed set at a very low price.

I'm wondering about it too. Any of the NCOWS old timers know the story behind this gun?

I have the series, both Lonesome Dove and Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years, and the Moseby character carried a Remington 75.  Newt carried a SAA for the length of the series. It might be poor information or Moseby's character used it in a single episode.
