41 Colt 1861 Navy
« on: March 01, 2012, 09:27:34 PM »
Well sort of..........

Came to me as one of those Pietta "Sheriff" models and it was probably the most worn out Cap and Ball pistol I have ever seen. Muzzle wear like it had been carried about a thousand miles on horseback with a holster full of dirt. Pitted, rusty and with a worn out bolt (no half cock) and a broken hand spring.

It was kind of fun to breathe new life back into it. I was given some "license" so I decided to give it the "someone restored it about 50 years ago look". Oh, and it's an inside lubed 41 Colt now because the owner believes "all real calibers start with a FOUR" ;)

Fine looking gun, that must be that short barrel you were wanting to trade with me for.
Hoof does some fine work!

Nope, that was an "Army" barrel (1860), this one's a "Navy" .36 calbre..........
I am really diggin' this "Gunsmith" or "Frontier" conversion look though!

Thanks for the compliment Paul!

Hey now LR - ya know if'n 38's are loaded right they take them targets down just the same!

I believe in caliber and gun diversity! I shoot 38's and 44's:)

Now PR you have seen me shoot. I don't always hit the target, but with them big bullets flying by, Them targets will hit the dirt just keep from being hit. ;D

I really like the way this pistol looks even if the grips have been worn down ;D  The picture it looks well balanced

"Worn down"?
Actually they were rust stained and blonde wood (ugiest Pietta grips ever). You should have seen how rust and ugly this thing was. I would have passed it by at a gun show at $50.00 ::)

I just finished bluing the fluted cylinder for this one today (had a couple of Rugers to blue for "Cricket Dave"). I cut the back off it and chambered it on Friday. Pics up soon.............
