Grips for a Uberti El Patron
« on: January 26, 2012, 09:51:12 PM »
Hey folks, I need a little help. I would like to replace my Uberti 1-piece wood grip with black grips similar to a Colt SAA. I don't want to use Colt grips, I just want some basic black rubber or plastic grips, much like the Vaquero grips. Can anyone tell me where I might find grips like these? I know it's probably wishful thinking, but I would like grips that don't require much fitting. Thanks for any help!

Not sure, but I think they used the basic 1860 Colt grips size on that gun. Could be wrong, but you might compare them to your gun; 1860 grips shouldn't be tough to find in most patterns.

The El Patron doesn't have 1860 sized grips.  They are standard Cattleman (SAA) sized grips.  The El Patron is sort of a generic Uberti version of the Evil Roy or the Smokewagon.  Most any grips that you buy will require some fitting.  If you buy 2-piece grips that screw together then you will need to add a locator pin in the gripframe.  Cimarron sells "1-piece" hard rubber grip that looks a lot like Colt's but has their logo in the upper part instead of the Rampant Colt.  The center piece is part of each side so they just snap together and are glued where they snap together to make them a 1-piece.  Those grips will also need to be fitted most likely.  There are other Colt-style grips out there as well, or any number of fake ivory one-piece.  Fitting isn't terribly difficult and instructions are provided by many makers.
