Anyone wearing the Shotgun Drovers boots from Texas Jacks?
How do you like them, are they well made?
I've found out the heel are 2 1/4", are they similar to a cuban heel? What is the shaft height?
Been looking at them as I need a pair to spell my Viers Montana boot co. CowBoy boots.

Thanks

I used to go there all the time, friendly folk. Call'm and they'll tell ya. I know some local, San Antonio, area people wear'm.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

Got several pairs of the Texas Jack boots, black and brown, various styles.  They do have a Cuban heel.  They are some comfortable boots.  16" shaft.  Best part is the period two piece construction.

If what you are referring to is the drover stovepipe, I have a pair or a pair like them. They come with a 20th century "spur shelf" (a solution to a non-problem), the boot pulls are made out of some sort of nylon webbing, the last layer to the heel is not leather (improved wear), and they are smooth side out and lined. Once you grind off that spur shelf and replace the webbing with correct material they are sort of a facsimile of a period boot. It is hard to grind the heel exactly into what a 1880's cuban heel would have looked like and the heel is placed ahead of the side stitching as all modern  boots are, but with some work they can look good at a distance. I am not unhappy with mine, although there are custom makers that make a 100% correct boot for the same price or not much more.

I find my boots are comfortable, and work well on a horse with that heel. But the high heel may not be your cup of tea if you are on the ground all day. They seem well made, they are 18 inches in height, the leather is of good quality.

Thanks for the replies.
I tried ordering a pair in 11 1/2 which they show as available but was informed they are only made in 11 and 12, no half sizes after 11.
Do these run any in size? Large or small.

I'm looking into having Fall Creek Suttlery make me a pair but they are concerned about making the cuban heel.
I have and wear a pair of Veir's Montana Boot Company CowBoy boots which are very close to the way they were made in the 1880's but they are no longer in business. Had them since 1990.

Try this guy, custom maker, have heard good things regarding quality, dead on period, no problem with cuban heel as he does them, reasonable delivery time for custom maker.

Thanks for the info, will give them a try.
Prices have gone up but not to bad as I gave $300 for my present boots in 1990.

JWC...Fall Creek is the way to go, French Jack and I both wear them. They will make you a boot that doesn't cost you an arm & leg.

Unless you need the extra two inches in height I would go with the walking heel, more comfortable in the long run, and a lot more common prior to 1880 on a boot that would have been worn by a drover(cowboy), freighter, buffalo hunter etc. Make sure to get the coffin toe.

If you are portraying a Towny, then go with the Cuban heel no spur shelf.

Bill;
Thanks for the info. The only problem they were having was with the cuban heel. The rest of what I was after they had no problem with. Their prices are very good for a handmade boot.
