I may have bitten off a little more than I kin chew
« on: June 20, 2005, 06:06:20 PM »

I shot the Kentucky State match this weekend.  As I was primarily vendin', I got to shoot through on 2 days in about an hour and a half.  It was kinda nice...more like a fast practice.  But, I wouldn't want it as a steady diet.  No interaction with the other shooters and the BERM MARSHALS as yer spotters.  Dang!  Those guys have eagle eyes!

I averaged about 1.3 misses per stage cause I jest couldn't wait that long to see the &#@%& targets. The sun was in me eyes for many of the stages.  But, no one asked me whether I carried 15 grains in my loads (actually about 2.1 cc's of 777 FFg in 38-40 cases).

The humidity was a bit high in the morning.  This pic is of a transition to the shotgun after 10 rifle rounds.

Note to self:  Next time you do a shoot through, do it at high noon when the sun is up and the humdity is down..... ::)

Don't think anybody will worry about not having "enough" smoke.
Keep that up and oxygen masks will become mandatory like safety glasses  ;D

Manatee,
Last year I did about the same thing, as I was one of the worker's. Only on our last stage or two, it started raining. I still shot clean(if you can call it that). Some of my Hooten Pard's said it took me about 3 hours, but it wasn't quite that long. Your going to have to practice more and outshoot Alan!

Wes:  "Practice ta beat Alan?"  WhoooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeHarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!  Practice.  Alan.  Heheheheheheheeheheheheheheheh.

I didn't shoot Frontiersman.  Shot FCD for a change of pace.  Alan did mighty well at this match, considerin' that many of the pistol shots could be considered "difficult" by todays standards.  They had over 1,100 misses and 70 - odd procedurals after the first day (including the prior shoot throughs).

Some of the Hooten fellers might consider that acceptable.  Some of us think that some folks might not consider missin' a bunch of targets to be so entertainin for a state match.  Only 2 clean shoots in total.

But, I thought the target arrays were fair.  Almost all of my misses were either due to smoke or looking to the next gun before I finished shootin the one in my hand.  No procedural traps that I could see either.

Purty good shoot.  I'll be back for sure.

Manatee,
I sure hated to miss it! I'm up here in Gettysburg and I'm gonna be here until November, and then "I"m goin' to Texas"! I reckon the only shoot I'm going to get to is "The Mason Dixon Stampede". Which is a great shoot and a whole lot closer to me than it was last year and the year before!
Hope to see you and Clyde down the trail sometime.

Good picture Oh Great Sea Cow!!

Makes me wish that this whole "permit" thing would hurry up and get finished so I can start shooting again.  I've heard that not many of the folks at the local club shoot BPC or C&B.  he-he-he-he.   ;D ;D

Kind of contridicting paragraphs.

Hooten agrees that if we had to do it over, we would make some changes.  But it was NEVER designed to be tough.  Just turned out that way.
Everyone except for you that talked with me, all said that any problems they had was because of themselves.  Didn't blame the stage.

We'll do better next time.

Wes: Har Har is right.  Its a laugh if Manatee thinks he is going to catch up with me.  Shooting cartridge guns and still finished behind.

I don't start them, I just finish them.

There was one stage at HUH where a travling varment went behind a row of spaced bales.  I'm shootn' BPGF.  I found that my left hand follows my right pretty well, so I just double tapped the varment every time it showed.  Had a real good score cuz there was no way for the scorers to see the results of the left hand gun.  I think I was hittin' pretty good.  Also, with two shots that close together, it's difficult to tell if you hear one clang or two.  I got the benefit of the doubt.

Smoke kin help.
