John Wesley Hardin's Autobiography
« on: April 14, 2010, 02:52:38 PM »
Has anyone here read John Wesley Hardin's autobiography?

I know it's available on Amazon. I'm wondering if it's well written and worth $17 plus shipping.

Yes - and yes - but remember, Louis L'Amour didn't write the thing.

Before you buy - order a copy from the Public Library, and read it before you decide to add it.

It's pretty good reading but understand up front that Hardin is trying to both justify his life and even make himself into some sort of hero. It's good to read Hrdin's book and almost any other biography about him to decide what you do or don't believe is the truth.

kflach, I read it and own it. We moved back in Nov. and it still may be in one of those unopened boxes. I liked it. Tj

I figure it will be rather one-sided but that's OK. Autobiographies usually are.

Trap, if you want to get rid of yours it I'll pay for shipping.

Kevin I may have a copy.  I am a lot closer than Trap.  I will not be home until next week but will try to find it and bring it to the Sunday Ten Horn shoot.

That'd be cool Tascosa. I could also just drive out that-a-way if I needed to.

p.s. My little brother shot his first batch of reloaded 45 Colt bullets yesterday (I showed him how and we worked up a batch together). He said it was "awesome!" I guess he liked the smoke and flames. <grin> Anyways, thanks again for helping me learn how so I could pass this on to him.

Reloading appears to be "the gift that keeps on giving."

Cool deal.  I am glad your brother is enjoying his toys.  I get a lot of enjoyment from reloading as well as shooting.  I was happy to pass on my limited knowledge to you.  I will not be home until the 23rd.  I will look for the book at that point.

There's a great biographical novel by James Carlos Blake that I got at the library as an audio book called the Pistoleer, fantastic! The various readers really bring JWH to life. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Trap & Tascosa, don't kill yourselves over this. The book is only $17 on Amazon. If I can get it easier some other way that's great, but this isn't a high-priority, must-have item.

awopaho joe, I'll check into my library for that. Thanks for the suggestion.
