Point of aim irritation
« on: May 01, 2005, 11:50:36 PM »
Took the new two Vaqueros out to the range. With warthog loads, height OK. One shot 4 inches left and 1 1/2 down. The other 2 inches left, proper height. Now its send the brand new pistols to someone to fix them. If it works, then send them again maybe. Why is point of aim so farging difficult? Straight is straight - height is different - one can understand load height but 4 inches off center? Give me a break. 1 1/2 inches off at 25 yards is unacceptble.  I guess we all should purchase 4 or 6 pistols so we can shoot while the others are in the mail and at places that will get to them when they can. Sometimethay might shoot straight. If you use a gunsmith, he should charge you. If it is factory, they should put on the box  - 70% chance this sucker will not hit what you aim at  and might be 16 to 25  inches off at 100 yards.

No, it is not trigger pull because all the Smith and Wessons hit Xs all day long. Rifles obliterated the x rings. The Vaqueros simply sucked. I guess I will copy this and send it to Ruger. The "overtightening" the barrels comments are interesting but it translates "your new gun won't shoot where you aim" - bad excuse for firearms.  Shooting where you point is kind of important in my opinion.

Do I now expect every vaquero will go to the range, hear swear words, cost to send it somewhere, wait, pray, and do it all again.

I rarely get one that prints right for windage out of the box.  Best thing to do is to settle on your load and then send some ammo and the gun to a 'smith to have the windage adjusted.  Elevation is easy, as long as they shoot low.

A&8 --

My RV shot the same way out of the box.  I lowered the front sight a little and used a "safe" file to widen the rear sight a pinch.  Works good for me.  A wider rear sight is more good for us older folks that can't see like we're 16 !!!!!  I shoot 7.5 gr Unique under a 250 gr cast slug.
