New Vaquero question

Just picked up a used "New Vaquero" in stainless and .45 colt. Only 50 rounds were fired through it.

Ruger offers Imitation Ivory grips for sale on their website. They are made by Hogue and have the Ruger medallion on them. Hogue also offers them but without the medallion. I was all set to order a pair but yesterday I happened to see an engraved New Vaquero with the Ruger grips at Cabella's Museum. The grips did not fit good. Has anyone ever ordered the Ruger or Hogue grips?

Also I usually use Flitz for stainless steel. Are there any better products out there?

Howdy Johnny

       Happy to hear you got a New Ruger Vaquero, about the grips from Ruger , they fit but they don't fit as close as I like, so I didn't get the plastic Ivory grips from Ruger, I went to www.eaglegrips.com  and I got the Ultra Ivory Gun Fighter grips, and I love them , they feel better in the hand and they point easier and more natural   ( IMHO ), I believe they will put the medallion on them if you would like, me I like mine commercial free, if you know what I mean, but they are nice , and a lot of pards go for it.

       When it comes to the stainless steel, Flitz is good, I just use my Dremel, or my large buffing and polishing unit, I use the green high gloss polishing compound and it works great, I use it on a felt wheel. hope this helped  ???

Thanks for the reply. I'll check into Eagle Grips. Was there much fitting to do?

I also would prefer to have grips without any sort of logo.

By the way, I paid $400.00 for the gun. It seemed like a good deal with it being almost brand new.

Lots of folks over at the S&W forums like to use, and recommend, the use of Mothers Mag Wheel Polish on their stainless guns.  You can find it at the auto parts store.  I will try to find a post or two that reference this, and link you to it.  Happy trails, Nick P.

        There wasn't any fitting to do at all , they have templates that they use for these guns and because Ruger uses a precise casting process , there isn't differences like there are with Colt and their clones, the grip frame  is one piece  with the Ruger single actions, so it's easier for them to make grips that fit. $ 400.00 is a dandy price , and I know you will love this gun , I sure do mine , I'm going to post a picture of mine , with the gunfighter grips, just go back up to my first post and take a look , I think you will like them, I've been told that they use real Ivory dust in the making of these Ultra Ivory grips, and I have to say they really feel like Ivory.
      If you get them, I have a tip I can give you on installing your grips, just give me a pm , and I'll go over it with you.

Hello TW,

I took a look at the pictures on your previous post. Your guns are beautiful! The grips look great. Thanks for your input.

After visiting their website I ended up calling Eagle Grips and they were very helpful. They are only 60 miles south of my home. I'll just drive down and pick out a pair.

Nick P, never thought of using Mothers. I'll have to try that, Thanks

Now its off to the range to try some ammo out that I've just loaded.

I purchased the ivory style grips from Ruger. They fit great. The only thing I had to do was open the grip stud hole on one of the sides a little. I did this by going to the next drill bit size and reamed out the hole just a smidge. If you have to do this be real careful you don't go through the grip to the outside. I put a piece of tape on the drill bit marking how deep I needed to go. The grips look great. I really like them. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase them again.

I believe this is the correect thread on which to either brag or complain about Ruger SAs is it not?
well first; the complaint.
  I sent my Ruger NMBH to be repaired after the ejector rod houseing broke and came completly off the revolver. Ruger has had it for over a month now, I just today received a call from Ruger saying that the gun will be ready in another week! That seems to be a bit long to me. But they have replaced the barrel with a new one and are now in the process of blueing the barrel.
second; the good news
after three years I have finally figured out a good load for my .45 LC Ruger Vaquero and where to aim with that load in order to place 5 out of 6 shots through the same hole @ 25 feet! I was floating on cloud nine Saturday at the range! The sixth hole was touching the big hole, It wasn't a fluke either cause I repeated it on the next target too! in a differnt pattern.
Wish I could post a picture but I ain't got the larnin to do so.

Howdy Cyrille

        Sorry to hear it's taking so long to get your Black Hawk fixed, I sent mine back for miner repair and got it back in Three weeks, which isn't too bad, I think the work there doing on yours is just taking longer, but when you get it back , it will be better than new. So tell us what you're useing load wise to be getting groups like that, I'd be interested, if you don't want to post it . I would appreciate a pm if you wouldn't mine.

I would also be interested in what you are using for a load. I loaded a dozen rounds with a 200 gr Moulton bullet and 5.6 grains of
Trailboss. My first group of three looked good and then it went downhill.

Johnny, Try 5.8g of TrailBoss, that's what I'm using for mine with 200 grainers........Buck 8)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Going back to the original question about the Hogue grips. I have a set on one of my NV's and I am quite fond of them.
No fitting required and they really look great with the Ruger medillion.
If they would offer a set in buffalo horn, I expect that I would be getting a set of those for my stainless NV.
