Looking for cheap 45lc ammo
« on: March 15, 2008, 10:28:51 AM »
I see great basin company has some darn good prices - about 22 dollars shipped to the door when you order in bulk

Is there any other small operation that loads a quality 45lc for an economical price?

thanks

I am sure someone else will post this also; Think about reloading.  I am running around $5.00 per 50 of 45 colt.
For the price of a lee turret press kit (around $104.00) add a set of Lee dies including the factory crimp die ($34.00) don't forget the lee safety primer ($20.00) and the Lee Auto Disk Powder Measure Riser ($7.00), and you will need a reloading manual, you will break even after only 9 or 10 boxes of store bought ammo.  I don't include this in the price break point, but you will need brass (around $20.00 per hundred) but it last a long long time.

By powder and primers from your local dealer.  Depending on price,  You buy the lead mail order, this is my supplier (who is also in CAS), but his prices just went up some http://cowboybullets.fortunecity.com/.  email him for new prices, tell him Compass Will sent you.

Plus it opens up a whole new world of our hobby. You can load for lighter recoil, different boolets, you can even figure out what works better then factory loads in your gun.

Some will post you need a very expensive reloader press, I hear "spend it now or later", but you can't beat Lee for getting started.

Great Basin and TENX will also do reloading for you using your old brass.  You can save some money this way too.
