Favorite Bullet
« on: March 08, 2008, 09:50:52 PM »
I recently discovered CAS and joined SASS.  After poking around on the web for awhile I finally settled on ordering a pair of USFA .38s and an AWA Lightning .38 to match.  My brother does a lot of reloading and he's offered to help me work up a good round.  This raised some questions in my mind while I'm waiting for everything to come together.

Do you use factory loads, or load your own?  If you're using factory loads, what's your preference?

If you're reloading, what's your bullet preference?  Why pick one bullet over another?  What muzzle velocities are you loading to?  Do you have different pistol and rifle loads?

I've pretty much placed my bet, but I'd still be interested in what's your favorite caliber?  Why did you pick it?  If you changed calibers after you started, why?

There's some information out there about calibers, but not really a lot on the ammunition that I can find.  The toughest part of any new enterprise is always overcoming ignorance, so thanks for any advice.

I like .45 Long Colt.  Just a big ol' American calibre.  I haven't done any competitions yet but want to observe some this spring.  I just like the round and its history.  Thats part of it for me.  I like the Great Basin Cartridge Co. 200 grain cartridge.  Not much kick and I seem to be gaining some accuracy with it.
