What about them Taurus cowboy guns ?
« on: September 28, 2005, 12:35:19 PM »
Does any one here actually own a Taurus Gaucho and if so how do it shoot ??  Is it an all new gun produced on new tooling equipment from Taurus or is it just another Uberti clone ?
The write-ups are all good and the price is well within reason, however it has that dreaded cross bar safety.  Not again that system, I shoot original Vaquero  Ruger's, also like tanks and dreadnoughts. However, the price on them Gaucho’s is most appealing to a retiree who has no chance in purgatory of ever getting a raise.

Also like that them pump action rifles, Thunderbolt’s could be their moniker.  Passed on the AWA Lighting’s because pards were having too much trouble with them.  Can’t help but wonder if the Thunderbolt’s  isn’t made using the same  AWA machinery.  I like the idea of a pump rifle but sure do want one that works.   Any one here have one that they can comment on ???

I dunno anything about Taurus guns.  My sixshooters are Navy Arms and my long gun is an original 1894 Colt Lightning.  My sixshooters and long gun are in .32-20 caliber. (Please!  No salty comments!).

I don't own any, but have handled one and researched them a little 'cuz of Taurus' good reputation. It is the smoothest out-of-box action I have handled. Compared to Rugers, I have a bunch, I would say the hammer and trigger pull are about half as much. It does have the dreaded transfer bar safety like the Rugers. They are made by Taurus not from Italy. One of my shooting pards bought a pair and first shot them during a match. He didn't have any complaints.

May have placed this on the wrong board - Gun Review looks like the correct forum. Found info over there on both questions.  Had to give up on the W92 in 32-20, Kid. Not being a top gun the counters were givin' me too many misses. Not seeing paint fly or hearing a loud enough ping/clang and not being a class winner, I was expected to miss and so it was given. Proof is in the numbers, when I went to W73 in 38 my rifle hits started coming in at 100%.  Have heard the same woe from other pards. Aware of the benefit of the doubt rule but sometimes it just don't work out that way - it happens.  Also, I never argue with the counters, that's just wrong.  The 32-20 was a fun gun to shoot but it's now regulated to standby statue.

There are two basic reasons I shoot .32-20 in both my rifle and sixguns.   1.  Less recoil and I stay on target better.  2.  I only have to bring two types of ammo to a shoot, rifle/pistol and shotgun.  I'm not afraid of guns that kick, but the less kick they have, the better I like them.  My shotgun is the kicker! I've worked my way around that too.  I shoot either trap/skeet loads, or BP and I wear a strap on recoil pad under my shirt.  No more bruised shoulders for this old trooper!

I own two consecutive numbered Taurus Gauchos.  They shoot great.  The trigger pull is real light.  One is almost a hair trigger.  I always use it in my right hand so  I know which gun has the light trigger.

The Gauchos are good guns.  I have a pair and know several others that shoot them and there have been few problems with them.  On the other hand, the Thunderbolt has a very poor reputation and would be a poor choice for your SASS main match rifle.  If you want one to play with and don't care about the jams, then at least they are the cheapest Colt Lightning clone on the market.
