Progressive reloading press?
« on: January 26, 2007, 02:34:57 AM »
I've decided that single stage loading is taking a lot of time now that I'm shooting a lot more often.  I  have come to the conclusion that I need a progressive press.  Im leaning toward the Lee Pro-1000,  any imput on that or other comparable progessive presses would be helpful...JB

If your looking to reload only one caliber, skip the Lee and get the Dillion Square Deal B.... you'll be alot happier...

I don't know anything about the Lee. I am sure it is a good product. I have been using s Dillon Square Deal B for several years , loading lots of 45 Colt and 45 ACP. It has been trouble free. You just have to keep in mind that with the Square Deal B, you can only load pistol calibers. The folks at Dillon are great if you have a problem or question.

The Square Deal B is the best value for the money that I have seen.
That is if you are only loading pistol calibers.

First thing I would do is look for one on Ebay.

Looks like this thread is already heading in the right direction.  I can only add that you will not regret spending the extra money for a Dillon press.

The Dillon is a fine press, I have a 550B.

If you have your heart set on LEE, my suggestion would be to bypass the Pro 1000, and go with the Lee Loadmaster. The Loadmaster is a much better press, its Lee's top of the line. Visit their web site and look at the videos of it in action.

The only things I don't like about the SDB is the cost of the change over kits if you want to load more than one caliber, and the fact that I have big hands (and fingers) and the SDB has a small operating window.

I have been using the RCBS Pro 2000 since it first came out and I am very happy with it.

I will second the RCBS Pro2000. The primer system is trouble free and you have a spot for a powder lockout die which the 550 does not. ;D

I bought a Dillon 550 B 6 or 7 years ago. The only regret I have had was that I didn't do it sooner. I may upgrade my Dillon to a 650 or better some day, but I'll always keep the 550B since it is so simple to change calibers. Set the main match caliber on the 650 and all the others on the 550B. I'd stay with Dillon because the product support is so fantastic. I called them once with a minor issue and they sent me new parts within a couple days, no questions, no charge. That is worth something, too.

Howdy

You might want to take a look at the review I wrote today about the Hornady Lock & Load AP in the Dark Side area of this forum.
That’s bad business! How long do you think I’d stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he’d pay me that much to stop robbing him, I’d stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!
