Reloading - Mesiter Rattler 105gr for 38 spl??
« on: January 14, 2007, 12:04:41 PM »
I'm looking to change bullets (Currently use 158gr) and came across the 105gr Meister Rattler. The ad says it is designed for both pistol and rifle including the Marlin (which I shoot). Just curious if anyone has any experience with this bullet and if so what you might think of it for use in CAS. Their website lists it as a Cowboy bullet.

Thanks in advance

I would worry about the OAL coming up too short to feed well in a rifle.  I currently use a 95 gr bullet for my pistols and a .125 for my rifle.  The .95s won't feed throough the rifle. They are just too short.  With the 125 I use the same powder charge for the rifle and the 95 gr pistol round so when I load all I have to do is adjust the seating plug.  It's no big deal to keep the rounds straight while loading either.

Won't hurt to give them a try but I'm betting that you have feeding problems with the rifle.

They are desigend to be as long as a 125.  San Juan, the owner of Colorado Cast Bullets, was at a shoot in Arizona this weekend and said the 105 and 125 are now the most popular CAS bullets.  He said very few people are shooting 158s anymore.  http://www.sanjuanrange.com/ccb_prices.htm
