Lost my hat....need a new one....
« on: January 22, 2006, 06:44:31 PM »
Well, my $25 cowboy hat is now unrecoverable. (the black one in my avatar)

I need suggestions for a net lid. $125 or less.

I would like one either like what Keven Costner had in "Open Range" or one of those "Cavalary Sargents" hats with the front brim stapled up.

Can't decide...leaning towards the former.

Anyone?

I bought an open range hat at the I'll state shoot the last week of July, from Ritter Hats in Texas, Sorry I cant find his card right now but it was $150
he made it to my specfications at lunch. he made Kid Shane a darker brown one and would make it in black also.

I'll let you know if I find his card

Dakota, you might want to call Terry Lane at the Fort, 1-800-327-5567, he can sell you a good hat and block it anyway you want it to look like... ;D  Or you can get some nice factory pressed hats from the likes of Bailey or Seregenti, they even have a few Rand's left at good prices...

Acually if it don't look like Richard Petty's or Gerorge Strait's it probally had a counterpart in the Old West.  To make them them look right just drag it around in the dirt and stomp on it. Hats were to individual to make it black and white.  Still should be that way!  Lead out don't follow.

Someone was sellin' straw hats like ya'd find ole ladies werkin' their gardens in.  Real cheap.......

Folded the brim up in front 'n tacked it with a concho.  Then I run an arrow thru the crown.

SASS crowd laffs 'n loves it.  I doubt the NCOWS folks would think much of it.

I highly recommend golden gate (Knudesen hats) they are in the cowboy chronicle. (and if you are in NCOWS, they have hats that meet the regs.) I got An "Open Range" with a "mule kick" in the back, with horse hair hatband and stampede string shaped to my preference for about $140....

Give em a look-see, if you cant find them email me and I will put you in touch with em.

I think I am going to get a slouch hat (like from the civil war) and button the front bill up.

Kind of like how you see it in some lithographs of the pony express riders..

I've got the same one that Curley Cole got.  I called the fella, and told him my head measurement and described what my trouble is when trying to find a hat that fits.  When I received the hat, it fit perfectly.  Amazing!  I've had it for about 1 1/2 years now.  It's been worn in the rain and everything, and retains it's shape.  Now that I think about it, it's the one I'm wearing in my avatar.  Can't see it too well tho'.

Ahh...perfect!!!

M244 is exactly what I was looking for.

Still working on some details of my persona for NCOWS.

Starting to come together, though...

Glad to help ( I was following this , I'm thinkin why is he not lookin at:  http://www.hatcrafters.com/ )

I bought my M244 from them and I was very pleased. It will come with the front brim tacked up (sewn) as in the photo.
I un-tacked mine but that's just my preference.
I'm sure you will like it.
