grip options?

just got an uberti 1873 .45 colt replica in stainless with the 5.5" barrel.

this is my first experience with a single action western style revolver.

the fit and finish of this gun is outstanding!

my only "complaint" is that the grip configuration is way too small.

I've got large hands and it's just not a good fit for me.

are there any fixes for this or do I just live with it or sell it?

Uberti 1860 Grips & frames , course they are hens teeth in Stainless , I suppose some nickel plated would do....

If you want to see an example , look up Pietta's Alchemista

It's been eons since Uberti manufactured a stainless 1860.  Hens Teeth is an understatement.  However .... Some lustrum ago, Uberti standardized a lot of their stuff.  I would suggest you contact VTI Gunparts for an 1860 "set" which will include fitted and finished wood.  Then you could either polish the steel bright or have it plated (Hard Chrome best bet).

what i'm wondering is if there are any oversized wood grips / stocks available for the Cattleman.

the factory grips are just too narrow and short for my hands.

you're right, they be ugly.

I've been searching for oversize one piece wood grips without really finding the "right" one.

at any rate, i'm keeping this little beauty and will learn to like the factory grips.

Some people with large hands find putting the little finger under the grip helps. 

Also, oversize grips will not be SASS legal though that may not bother you.  An 1860 gripframe and grip is legal.

If you just want the grip to be fatter, some aftermarket grips are fatter than others.  About 15 years ago I ordered some Altamont faux ivory grips for a 2nd gen Colt, and they were way too thick for my smaller hands, so I sold them.

a little research has shown me that the Pietta Alchimista II (.45 colt of course) may be the answer.

I get the part about the longer grip, but how about the thickness of the of the grips?

narrow profile or "meatier" than the Uberti Cattleman or colt repro?

any owners out there that can comment?

The Army grip is usually just longer, not thicker, than the standard SAA grip.  But again, you could find thicker after market grips for the Army gripframe as well.

I'll have to sell the Uberti to buy the Pietta...

Get an 1860 grip assembly from VTI for your Uberti , it will fit right up....

the Alchimista is a fine gun...but you have the  stainless Uberti just call VTI.  Part # UB:040011/Ass

another option.  check EBay  or advertise here and see if someone is willing to swap  or has a set...
