Now THAT is just TOO KOOL!!  Actually both are just too KOOL.  
If we harken back to halcyon days of yesteryear, we are taken to the movie Wild Wild West with Will Smith.  The very bad girl, Munisha,
toted a Henry Rifle with a full Malcom Scope on it.  It took a while for me to realize she held a rifle

I cannot imagine schlepping across the West with that delicate setup banging on a horse every step of the way.

Same can be said for the scoped Sharps '74's. Today, these rifles are transported in padded, fitted cases and treated very carefully.
Their utility in the field must have been somewhat limited due to their fragility. Bouncing one around in a freight wagon sounds like good way to put one out of commission very quickly.

There are several scoped firearms known from this time period.
The optics are quite poor compared to what we think of today.
I own an 1865 Maynard Sporting Rifle in .40-60 cal. This is a percussion gun with a scope on it. The optics are a 2-X and/or at best a 4-X power.
The adjustments for range, distance and windage are all done from the front scope mount.

One of the unique things about the Maynard's is that the barrel assembly could be very easily separated from the frame. Unlike most other firearms.
This gun came in a carrying case/presentation case where it could be carried with these two parts separated and still protect the scope.
This info is based only on this one "original" scope mounted rifle that I own. (others may vary greatly)

I would think anyone with that set-up would be traveling around in a wagon of some sort.  Rifle in a wood case, well padded and some
swell padding under the case.  The only real good purpose for that particular set-up is plinking people.

Maynard became very well known for the accuracy of their .40 and .44 cal. target Rifle.
It is my belief that this 26" barreled 1865 model Sporting percussion firearm was set up, scope included, as a demo type gun for mid and long range target shooting.
It not only had the scope, but also had the venier tang sight (which could not be used with the scope attached).

I did not post this info on the Henry forum because I had a Maynard. I posted it here because of the scope and that this type of scope is contemperary to the one pictured in the OP.

We don't have a Maynard forum.  Since we're actually digressing into the Malcom, perfect place to insert the Maynard.
"Sides, not real often we see a Henry with a fill length Malcom.

I do think, however, my 16 inch barrel Henry Trapper would be just TOO KOOL FOR SKOOL with an appropriate length Malcom to
be full length.  I may have to seriously look into that.  No practical use for CAS, but who'd care!!!  Just too cool!!

Aw Schucks.

Youz Guyz gotz me started in "Project Mode."  Again.  I just had to go looking.  I have three possibilities.  I have a 19 1/4 inch barrel carbine that is a mechanical copy of the gun built in South America.  I have an 18 1/2 inch barrel Carbine/Trapper (some call it a Trapper)
and I have my 16 1/4 inch barrel Trapper.  With the Sun Shade Extensions to the short Malcom Scopes on offer, and the available offset
mounts (for top ejectors) I think I can make it work for any of my current Henrys.

This thread is going to get expensive for me over the winter.  I already have a Henry build project for a really good friend.  I may be forced to raise his price 

Malcolm Scopes aren't cheap.  Wish I could find one "all brass."
