Shot ALOX lubed bullets in SASS Sunday
« on: July 07, 2011, 09:24:42 AM »
Ran without a glitch. No residue in barrels. Nothing to not like about ALOX at this point. Sure is easier than lubersizin' for ever bullet. I shoot 'as cast' because that puts me at .429.

Are you talking about the Lee brand of alox lubricant that coats the whole bullet and then dries?

I have a Marlin 1894 Cowboy in 45 Colt that lets crap blow back.  I'm told to help this is to up the bullet weight and the charge and to use 454 diameter bullets.  I have two molds that throw 250-255 gr bullets but have a 452 sizing die for the lube/sizer.  I've never measured the unsized bullets but they must be over 452.  So... Rather than buy a 454 sizing die, maybe I could use the Lee alox system on raw bullets.

Sure be worth a try. I like the Lee Alox a lot. I didn't at first until I discovered I was using way too much of it. If, when you spread them out on some waxed paper to dry, some alox runs off & leaves some on the paper, you've used way too much.
