1858 Remingtons with Shoulder Stocks

I know some Remmies come with notches on the bottom of the grip for attaching a shoulder stock to same.  Have any of youse guys made your own notch in the frame so you could attach a shoulder stock to an 8" Remmie?

A friend of mine did his, using mine as a guide.  I believe he drilled a pilot hole and then finshed with a dremel.  It did not look the best, but once the stock was attached you did not see it.  Mine is one of the buffalo length brass framed ones, got it as a gift.  It is a tack driver with the stock.  I believe you also must get a special hammer screw,the head of the screw is extended and has a nut on the other side.  This catches the "hooks" of the stock.

My good CAS buddy Wolfgang claims the Dixie Gun Works $185 stock works without cutting a notch.   If it doesn't I suppose I could cut one out of a Remmie.  Cableas has em the 8" on sale again for $179.

The Remington Carbine is neat, but the brass frame makes it no more NCOWS acceptable then my 1873 revolving carbine. That being said, I am going to en-corporate my carbine into our Sept shoot. My shoot will be based upon Gerrison's raid on Newton station. The 2nd Iowa was equipped  with the Root Carbine. So shooters will have the opportunity to shoot. If they use it, they shoot 5 rounds, if not, they will shoot 10 rounds.
