Just checking to see if anyone might be interested in forming an NCOWS Posse in Southeastern Wisconsin starting out shooting indoors. Southeastern Wisconsin includes the cities of Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Waukesha and some of Chicago's northern suburbs.

For the past two winters we have held indoor Cowboy Action Shooting matches at an indoor range in Racine, Wisconsin. Racine is 32 miles from Milwaukee, 47 miles from Waukesha and around 50 miles from some of the northern towns in Illinois.

We rent the entire range for two hours and depending on the amount of participants, the cost is usually around $15.00 to $20.00 per shooter. We shoot three Rifle and four Pistol stages. It would be possible to combine a Rifle and a Pistol stage together. We shoot at paper targets on a 28" x 22" cardboard backing. After each shooter the targets are retrieved mechanically and re-taped for the next shooter. This system works well and is safe. There is not enough room here to fully describe how these indoor shoots work so I have prepared more detailed information that I could email to anyone who is interested in exploring this idea.

My thought is that this could be a way to get an NCOWS Posse started in Southeastern Wisconsin now. We would not have to be concerned with insurance as the range takes care of this. As the Posse grows we can devout our efforts to locating an outdoor facility.

While shooting indoors is obviously not the same as shooting outdoors, one can get creative with the stages and make them challenging. One big advantage of holding indoor shoots is that you can shoot all year long. In Wisconsin our season is from April through November.

Please give this idea some consideration. If you are interested and would like to know more about this, please send an email to jvsaffran@wi.rr.com  I will send you more detailed information.

Indoors would mean no Black Powder?

:'(

I do understand WHY, and I hope you get lots of folks to play, Johnny & Hoppy!

That would be the sad part but it would be the start of NCOWS in SE Wisconsin and NE Illinois. The nice part is we could do it year round until we secured an outdoor site. The  ability to shoot in the winter is appealing to me. The only shoots I particiapted in this winter were the ones Johnny organized for our local SASS group. They were excellent.

i think this is geat idea and want to encourage you to pursue it by contacting cowboys in your area.this board doesn't reach everyone so get the word out of how much fun your going to have and they will come.jefff

Ima Sure Shot

I agree this is a great idea.  As Jeff says, contact cowboys. And if you have already done a sass group that would be a good place to start. celeste

Johnny, I would join even if I wouldn't be able to shoot all that often.  Now that my health is coming back and I have some energy I should be able to provide you some help.  Let me know by e-mail just what you might need.
