Simply passing this along
« on: March 23, 2012, 04:17:57 PM »
I am passing this along , I have no data to say it true or not these are not my statements  :-\

Here are comments from other people,
"I have also been asked if we keep guns in the house.
The nurse just kinda slipped it in along with all the other regular questions.  I told her I refused to answer because it was against the law to ask."
Everyone, whether you have guns or not, should give a neutral answer so they have no idea who does and who doesn't.

"My doctor asked me if I had guns in my house and also if any were loaded.  I, of course, answered yes to both questions.
Then he asked why I kept a loaded gun close to my bed.  I answered that my son, who is a certified gun instructor and
also works for Homeland Security,  advised me that an unloaded, locked up gun is no protection against criminal attack."

The Government now requires these questions be asked of people on Medicare, and probably everyone else.

Just passing this along for your information:

I had to visit a doctor other than my regular doctor when my doctor was on vacation..  One of the questions on the form I had to fill out was:
Do you have any guns in your house?? My answer was None of your damn business!!  So it is out there!

It is either an insurance issue or government intervention.  Either way, it is out there and the second the government gets into your medical records (
As they want to under Obamacare) it will become a major issue and will ultimately result in lock and load!!

Please pass this on to all the other retired guys and gun owners...Thanks
From a Vietnam Vet and retired Police Officer:

I had a doctors appointment at the local VA clinic yesterday and found out something very interesting that I would like to pass along.

While going through triage before seeing the doctor, I was asked at the end of the exam, three questions:

1. Did I feel stressed?
2. Did I feel threatened?
3. Did I feel like doing harm to someone?

The nurse then informed me, that if I had answered yes to any of the questions, I would have lost my concealed carry permit as it would have gone into my medical records and the VA would have reported it to Homeland Security.

Looks like they are going after the vets first. Other gun people like retired law enforcement will probably be next. Then when they go after the civilians, what argument will they have?

Be forewarned and be aware.  The Obama administration has gone on record as considering veterans and gun owners potential terrorists. Whether you are a gun owner veteran or not, YOU"VE BEEN WARNED !

If you know veterans and gun owners, please pass this on to them. Be very cautious about what you say and to whom.

Funny that you should say this as no doctor has asked me this and I've been on medicare for a year now with a couple of visits to doctors not my regular. I will look for it though in the future and I do keep loaded guns in my home as I also live where I work.

Neither Medicare nor the VA has ever asked me these questions in the seven years I've been involved.

I would be extremely careful as too how you answer the question:

A person that owns guns will usually answer..
1. Why?
2. None of your business
3. I do not want or need to answer that question

A person that does not own a gun will usually answer...
1. No

At my last visit to a doctor, I was asked if I have guns in the house ... Nope!

It was on a new form that I was asked to fill out and basically I did not answer any questions on the form, just signed and dated.  The receptionist informed me the new forms have just came out and they are required to get the signed but people are not required to answer the questions ... as of that date, none of her clients had answered a question.

+1

I HAVE been asked this at the VA hospital ... MANY times.  I was not told anything about losing my CCW license, but I can see where it might affect you legal status.

I am not in the VA system, but I sometimes ask patients and or family members about firearms in the home.  I only ask such questions if I am dealing with a depressed and potentially suicidal patient OR family members of a patient with diagnosed dementia who are prone to episodes of confusion and even paranoia at times.  Please don't read malicious intent into such questions as there are very real reasons why they may be asked.  We, as providers have a legal duty to take action if someone is clinically determined to be a danger to himself or others and most of us take this responsibility seriously.  I have never had to report someone to the authorities but would not hesitate to do so if I thought it might save someones life.

Don, It is sad to say, but over the last few years some of us have become very distrustful of our Goverment. Some of the things that have happened (Ruby Ridge and Waco) have only built that distrust. I place a lot of trust in the doctors that treat me. They work and live right here in our community. Thank you for your service and it is a pleasure to know you. Tj

Major, I have heard of this, particularly in regards to my nephew who has been diagnosed with PTSD. He very respectfully remained neutral in his answer, but, did tell the doctor that was none of his concern. As I understand it, it is another form of profiling.

FWIW...
After reading these comments over the weekend I was somewhat interested as to what would be asked when I went to a Doc appt. this week. The Nurse asked two 'new' questions that she said were 'required' by the govt. and that they had to tell me that. The first was did I smoke and how long had I? The second was a form she filled out showing me my BMI/Body Mass Index and how it could be lowered or maintained, etc., new regs to help us older American guys and gals stay healthy.
At no point did anything like the weekend post comments come into play, however, when I went to get a scheduled blood draw in the lab next door, the nice young Nurse who I usually get helped me, I had teased her about fishing last week when she said her guy had caught a 12" Crappie on a crawler. She proceeded to tell me about her recent shopping spree with her daughters to get prom dresses. I played along being a doting Grandpa myself but was surprised when she started telling me that after getting dresses for the girls she figured she 'needed' another revolver. I about dropped my jaw at that and asked what she was looking for. She 'splained to me that she had a S&W snubby for CCW use as she lived in a busy area and was looking at another S&W for home use. My heart beamed at her strength and willingness to discuss the protection of herself and her most prized possessions, I applauded her and thanked her for her support as we chatted about CAS and suchlike. She was very interested in it and saw the comparison to other venues and the historical aspects. Might have to get her and the girls all gussied up in borrowed duds and get them to a doo-dah sometime.
So, maybe the changes in 'new' questions are still coming slowly into play, but one thing was for sure, this gal made some fine style points with this old Pard!
Best regards, hold the course and stay healthy!
'Ol Gabe
