Engraved Colt's BP pistolas
« on: March 01, 2012, 04:29:17 PM »
These two factory engraved Colt's 2nd gen (edit: Signature Series) pistols were out of the safe at Cimarron recently and I took the opportunity to snap a couple pics.  They were traded in at Texas Jack's a few years ago.  A little eye candy for your enjoyment  :)

The top on is a Custer Commemorative 1861
The bottom Paterson is a commemorative also, correct? But which one, Abilene?

They're both Signature Series revolvers Abilene.  You're right Hoofy, the top one is a Custer Commemorative.  The Paterson is a deluxe model that was made between 1998 and 2002 and was available on a special order basis.

they both sure are purty though

Well you guys know a lot more about them than I do.  All I know is, I was told that the same guy brought them in one at a time to Texas Jack's a few years back and said he had no use for them (don't know how he came about them), and he traded one for a Cimarron single action, and the other for some ammunition (high dollar ammo I think, but not THAT high!).   :o

You're right, Hoof, they are crying to be played with, but not likely to happen.

HH,
I thought the Signature Series were 3rd generation and not truly Colt's as they don't factory letter. 2nd generation Colt's do factory letter. Am I wrong in this assumption?

Here's your chance Abilene.  Buy the one on Gunbroker and you'll have a pair to shoot!   8)

My bad (corrected above). I typed quicker than I looked.....it's a "Signature Series" ::)

This is like an Elvis sighting to me. He's dead and BP Colts pistols are all "1st gen" everything else is not an ORIGINAL and here's why:
Parts interchangeability

Every ORIGINAL Cap and Ball Colt I have worked on has a longer frame than it's contemporary counterpart, which by the way is EXACTLY the same length as a Uberti (imagine that).

So You have:
Colts
Colt Built
Colt Licensed
Clones

In that oder of "Real-ness"

Yeah, except that the one at Cimarron is back in the safe I'll probably never see it again, much less get to shoot it   :)

And nice as that gun is, the next thing on my wish list in that price range is a 32-20 deluxe short rifle (it wasn't on my list until they accidently over-ordered and are selling at cost  ;D )

Well, my ignorance is showing.  Though I didn't know these were Signature Series, I thought Signature Series were still considered 2nd Gen.  Edited orignal post.
