What is it about NCOWS?
« on: June 21, 2011, 06:40:28 PM »
I am lost in the woods, a party of one.  It is close to 300 miles to the nearest NCOWS possee, a trip I can not make.  The one and only posse here in Sunny (hot very hot) California.

So what is it about NCOWS that makes a person wait with baited breath for the mail each day?  Like a giddy little girl waiting on her first date.

What is it about NCOWS that makes you look forward each day for the mail to arrive, just in case there is this package with a number that says, "You are member #**** of NCOWS?

It has now been 20 days since sending in my membership and each day the wait gets harder.  I realized the day after I sent the application in that everyone took too the road for nationals. I realized immediately that the wait would be long,  But what is it about that little card making a person an official member of NCOWS that can drive a person crazy waiting?

I know what you mean. I've been a member since 1993 and still love it. My member number is 114. Still a happy NCOWS member. Welcome to the fold.

Why?

The smell of real black powder.

Hand sewn gun leather

Seeing a S&W 44 DA on the line.

Chewing cud around the camp at Nationals.

The jingle of 4 Morgan dollars in your pocket.

Watching folks bring their kids and grandkids to learn to shoot.

Reading the time from your pard's 1880 pocket watch.

Sharing time with good friends . . . remembering the last match and looking forward to the next one.

Running with an outfit that values the Real Old West, not what Hollywood or a TV show thinks it might be . . .

Pancho, I would agree totally with this list, if there was more than a remote chance I will ever get to join in with an NCOWS group.

But considering Here is how I would interpret the list...

The smell of real black powder... That be all I shoot

Hand sewn gun leather... Yep done made my own and love it

Seeing a S&W 44 DA on the line... I only see C&B shooting and love that.

Chewing cud around the camp at Nationals... One of the best things about like minded groups, even a group of two.

The jingle of 4 Morgan dollars in your pocket.... Think I need to get these for my own self.

Watching folks bring their kids and grandkids to learn to shoot... Love watching new people learn in-spite of their age.

Reading the time from your pard's 1880 pocket watch.... This one I have and my friends read it.

Sharing time with good friends . . . remembering the last match and looking forward to the next one... only our own.

Running with an outfit that values the Real Old West, not what Hollywood or a TV show thinks it might be . . .  now this is the big one.

I wait each day for the arrival of that packet, because I want to be associated with people that feel this way.  It will keep me honest and give me something to think about every day and to strive for long term.

Have now reached day 23 and going crazy waiting for the mail to arrive ... yet saying to my self "probably won't be there".

Thank you too everyone for the welcome to the group.  I just want to be official.  ;D

Howdy Two Walks,

Being an all volunteer organization,  the folks who handle the mail and membership chores do the best that they can to get it done quickly.  I certainly understand the impatience that we all feel when waiting for something to be processed and arrive in out hand.  It will get there!  Hope it does soon!

Dr Bob, no impatience meant ... Anticipation was the order of the day and today it arrived.  I was surprised beyond words looking at the quality of the Shootist ... worth the price of admission on its own.

Thanks Jeff, I live in a rural town also ... sometimes I have to wait until the 2 postal folks finish reading before it can be delivered.  ;D
