Doc, I load with my weak hand so the glove would cause me to fumble my ammo.

I found, that when I shot 2F in my pistols, they got a lot hotter then with the same amount of 3F. I think it has to do with the bigger grains leaving more room for air and that causes a hotter burn. But, I really can't say for sure. I just know it happens!

ffg BP will give you a longer blast of flame out the barrel do to it burning slower, but hotter do to the length of the burn, unfortunately or not the round leaves the barrel with less pressure. So you are correct in sayin' ffg burns hotter.

I've been away for awhile. I got side tracked with a muzzleloader (Hawken)

The 2F actually worked pretty good. 30gr for an 1860. It filled the chamber better, no wad, and less Crisco was needed. Recoil was mellow.

The way I keep from frying my off hand on the barrels is to lace a THIN leather sleeve around the barrels at the level of the forestock.

@Hellgate - That's a great idea. I think I'll try that since I think that a glove would make me fumble more. (At least until I had LOTS more practice.)  :)

In my '73 Winchester .44-40,  36 grs of FFFG produced the same velocity as 40 grs. FFG (10% difference).
That could vary a bit depending on the types and lot numbers.
